Ground Skink
Scincella lateralis

The Ground Skink is our smallest lizard. Adults are from 3 to 5 inches in total length. These little lizards have smooth, shiny scales and tiny legs and feet.

Ground Skinks are found throughout South Carolina. Their range extends from New Jersey through Florida and west to eastern Kansas to Texas, except for the high mountain areas.

They are found in woodland areas crawling through fallen leaves and other ground materials.
