Painted Turtles are medium-sized turtles with topshell (carapace) length of 5 to 7 inches. These turtles often bask together on logs in bogs and ponds.

Painted Turtles are potentially found in the sandhills, piedmont and mountains of South Carolina. Along with other subspecies, Painted Turtles are found in much of the eastern and upper midwest of the United States.
