Whether you are a current resident, or have root
in Laurens County, or even the Piedmont area of
South Carolina, you will find this work to be
informative, anecdotal, and interesting.

The book contains a detailed chronology of the
formation and growth of the county and of
“Laurensville.” Early educational institutions,
churches and medical treatments are featured.
One section deals with the growth of agriculture,
particularly with cotton. Along with that growth,
slave ownership increased before 1840, and a chapter
is devoted to this institution and its influence on
society.

We are especially proud of a pictorial representation
of famous old homes built before 1840, along with
depictions of some of the important mills of the time.
The book contains more than 150 portraits and photos
along with 43 maps and tables that bring more visible
meaning to the history.
